HEADLINE: God Bless the Sandy Hook School Families and the Community of Newtown, Connecticut
|
| ||
BODY: We, the members of the Community Association for Firearms Education (CAFÉ), with heavy hearts and profound sadness send our prayers and condolences to the families of Sandy Hook School grieving the tragic loss of their child and love one’s. We pray for the First Responders and Newtown Community as God wraps his arms around you all.
The tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut was the actions of a determined, deranged, mentally Ill person. Mental health systems across this country are in a state of disaster. Far too many people in need of mental health care cannot get the help they need. Laws intended to protect patient’s rights get in the way of early intervention. This country would be safer if Mental Health Care was fully subsidized by the Federal Government. Gratuitous violence in movies, video games and music that glorify negative behavior appeals to a certain segment of the population. Now add an emotionally unstable person to this population and you increase the potential for a tragedy. Families should not have to wait for an extreme situation to get temporary help for a clearly disturbed family member with a long term problem. Terrorists and criminals by their very nature do not obey laws. An attack on modern sporting rifles or a so-called assault weapons ban will in no way make our country safer. As we grieve this horrific loss of 20 angels and 6 guardian angels we must renew our commitment to protect our families everywhere they go. We must remember that in June 2005 the Supreme Court ruled in Castle Rock v. Gonzales that the police did not have a legal duty to protect a person from harm; even a woman who had obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation. That means that we are individually responsible for our own personal safety. We want to encourage mentally stable, trained, law abiding Americans in states that allow Concealed Carry to stand up and exercise that right. Always secure your firearms and ammunition separately so that NO UNAUTHORIZED person can access them when not in use. If you know that your home is experiencing unusually difficult emotional times, reconsider how you have your firearms secured in your home. Consider if the temporary situation in your home is such that it might be safer to secure your guns outside your home until the situation inside the home improves. Ricardo A. Royal, Founder & National President

POSITION STATEMENT
Shall Issue Concealed Carry Permits
January 14, 2005
It is the official position of this Association that all law-abiding Americans are entitled by the Second Amendment of the Constitution to poses firearms and “Shall not be infringed”. The individual right to own firearms is supported by the MEMORANDUM OPINION FOR THE UNITED STATES ATTORNEY GENERAL dated August 24, 2004, it has as part of its conclusion “we conclude that the Second Amendment secures an individual right to keep and to bear arms” and “The text of the Amendment's operative clause, setting out a ‘right of the people to keep and bear Arms,’ is clear and is reinforced by the Constitution's structure”.
This means that the Right of Self-Defense is a civil right. It is not limited to your home or place of business it is an unrestricted Right. We believe that “the first law of nature is self preservation” and that parents have an obligation to protect their children. It is our belief that every American exercising the right to bear arms has a responsibility for the proficiency and safe practices only hands-on-training can provide.
Therefore it is the opinion of the Community Association of Firearms Educators, Inc. that any law-abiding American that is: (1) permitted by law to purchase and bear Firearms and, (2) has satisfactorily completed an approved training standard that includes both “handling and live fire exercises” “shall be issued” a Concealed Carry Permit upon request.
We will vigorously support “Shall Issue” concealed carry bill(s) with mandatory training requirements at state and national levels.
